Gyeonggi Artist Highlights 2024 Catalogue
Design Structure: Symmetrical Bi-directional Layout  This catalog was planned with a perfectly symmetrical structure to introduce the two participating artists with equal weight and independence within a single volume. Unlike a typical book read in a single direction, introductory sections for both artists were placed on the front and back covers, establishing both ends as starting points for the book. The reading flow was designed so that the reader progresses through each artist’s section from opposite ends and meets at the exact center pages of the book. When one artist’s section concludes, the subsequent pages appear upside down; at this point, the book can be flipped over to read the other artist’s section in the corresponding direction. The exhibition identity graphic was placed on the center spread where the two artists meet, providing a visual unity that binds the two independent sections together.

Gyeonggi Artist Highlights 2024 Identity
‘Gyeonggi Artist Highlights’ is an exhibition project dedicated to spotlighting artists based in Gyeonggi-do. We derived an intuitive visual motif from the word ‘Highlight’ (spotlight/focus) specified in the title, establishing a simple yet highly impactful exhibition identity. Core Design Concept : Converging Lines and Linear Forms Converging Line Graphics : The graphic was composed utilizing the ‘line’—the most definitive element for increasing visual attention. Through an expansive presentation of lines converging to the center or radiating outwards, the concepts of ‘spotlight’ and ‘focus’ were visually manifested. Graphic Typography : Considering the length of the title, we designed the identity by maximizing linear forms to emphasize visual aesthetics rather than simple readability. The strokes making up the consonants and vowels were intentionally fragmented into short lines, and converging line elements were placed around the exterior to strengthen the identity’s symbolism.

CLOSE AND FROM AFAR CATALOGUE
This catalog adopts a modified saddle-stitch binding structure and was produced through hand-binding. It was composed so that the structure and material qualities of the binding remain visible. The overall color palette is based on blue tones, and a fluorescent magenta thread was used to emphasize the exposed binding structure. Saddle stitching forms a left–right symmetrical structure created by overlapping folded sheets. The flow and reading order of the catalog were designed in accordance with this structure. The catalog presents works by three artists, with colored insert pages used to distinguish each section. The first half presents the artists’ work images in sequential order, while the latter half presents the artist texts in reverse order. An additional insert placed at the center presents archival exhibition images and marks the transition between the work image sections and the artist texts.

Work Book
This work book was produced for placement in the archive space and is designed to present each artist’s working process in a sequential format. As archive spaces typically feature materials focused on final outcomes, it was necessary to provide documentation that reveals the methods and stages through which the works were developed. The three participating teams employed distinctly different working approaches. Reflecting this, the graphic and color elements of the exhibition identity were unified, while the layout of images was differentiated for each team to articulate their individual characteristics.

2024 ANYANG-BASED ARTIST DISCOVERY SUPPORT EXHIBITION
A frame serves both as a vessel that holds an artwork and as a structure that subtly enhances the work’s symbolic presence, all while protecting it without compromising its visual integrity. By embracing the long nature of the title, we extended it into a linear form so that it could function like a frame itself. Since the title exists in both Korean and English, the relatively short Korean title was placed horizontally at the center to improve visibility and readability. The English title was positioned vertically, prioritizing a decorative, frame-like quality over readability.

ART After Corona?_CATALOGUE
The spread of Covid-19 that has strained the whole world has affected our entire lives and has caused many changes. With social distancing becoming common, museums, and most cultural facilities, including art galleries, closed, and the entire city shut down for a long time, the art world faced many changes in 2020. As a result, our writers sought to cope with the changing times, and the rapidly changing visual art of the after-corona era entered the New Normal era in non-face-to-face cultural life. Marking its eighth anniversary this year, "959 Art Platform Open Studio" is a venue to showcase various creative results newly conceived by tenant artists throughout the year. Due to Covid-19, the opening of the open studio is limited, and the online exhibition, which is held through SNS a month before the face-to-face exhibition, does not visit the studio in person, but examines the main works and intentions of the tenants. In addition, during the face-to-face exhibition period, the introduction of the studio artist was designed to provide a more dense viewing through the QR code.

The Secret of Evolution
The Secret of Evolution #J-4 Nature, Embracing The Human and Mechanical Most people have probably wondered at some point about the origins of living things, whether human, animal, or plant. For me, the question of how humans came to be and how evolution ultimately led to the emergence of human civilization has been a point of continual fascination. In my late twenties, I had the opportunity to travel to the historic sites of various ancient civilizations. Along the way, I met people from various backgrounds and grew curious about their cultures and histories. This was a formative experience that continues to shape my work and guide me in the development of my craft. One incident from those years is particularly memorable. I was traveling along the Mediterranean coast when I happened to stumble upon an archaeological excavation. My curiosity was instantly piqued, and I found myself deep in thought: Were the artifacts being unearthed at this site truly thousands of years old? What if a much more advanced civilization had existed long before humans emerged, not thousands but millions of years ago? What if traces of this earlier civilization were lying beneath the surface of the earth, waiting to be discovered? This project thus started from imagining a new civilization and creatures which we never knew. The Secret of Evolution #J-4 Natural, Embracing the Human and Mechanical is an unidentifiable object, labeled #4, that was discovered deep in the inland area of the Korean Peninsula in Northeast Asia. When discovered, it looked like an animal-plant-machine-human variant covered with iron-like metal in and out. I imagine that J-4 has been here with us in the Korean Peninsula from a point five millions of years ago, which overcame all sorts of environmental changes (global warming, volcano eruptions, glacial periods, etc.) and largely affected the evolution of living beings. Imagine that the living beings that started from #J-4 have emerged and transitioned into various beings that exist and breed on earth. So #J-4 might have accelerated the evolution of various creatures and also affected the evolution of human beings. I believe it might have exchanged energy with the ancestors of Homo Sapiens, Fauna and Flora, which affected the development of present-day creatures. As we know well, it is impossible to perfectly predict the future, but it is equally impossible to perfectly comprehend the past. As for me, the fact that so much remains unknown is endless fuel for my curiosity and endless inspiration for my art. spring spring spring exhibition leaflet.
In celebration of its grand opening, the Seoul Botanic Park is holding an exhibition of Roe Dong-Sik’s 〈Spring, Spring, Spring〉. Following up on the Lobby Project held during its initial opening in 2018, SBP is presenting Mr. Roe’s installation artworks in the Project Hall 2 and along the entryway to the building. The artist, who had been showing works of cotton based on his memories of the cotton gin shop his mother ran, has recently begun experimenting with metals and other objects. The 〈Spring, Spring, Spring〉 exhibition features the artist’s installation artworks made in various images and shapes of the dandelion, flower and spore, forming images of children flying along the dandelion spores they blew into the blowing winds. By evoking an imagination, fantasy or dream that we all might have had when young, the artist takes us into a new world.

People to Remember 1st_ Poster
The year 2019 is the year for the 100th anniversary of the 3.1 movement. Most people will remember the most iconic figure of the 3.1 Movement as the female independence activist Yu Gwan-soon. But there are many women independence activists who are not yet well known, as well as Yu Gwan - Soon. The Studio Nail has produced a calendar poster for the 100th anniversary of the 3.1 Movement in 2019, commissioned by the Institute of Korean Women's Independence Movement. The poster contains the faces of female independents activists who carried out independence movements in various fields including Yu Gwan-soon. I thought it was more important than ever to let women independence activists know their faces better than the achievements of independent activists. This calendar poster will be the first series and the second series will be produced later.

Sponsored symbol design
I designed the symbol of support for the Korean Women Independence Movement. Bella Lab, a sponsor company, always studies the beauty of women as a women's beauty brand. Bella Rap Co., Ltd. became interested in women independence activists who showed the toughness and beauty of true women, and sponsored a project to inform women independence activists through the Korea Women 's Independence Movement Research Institute. I wanted to put a beautiful smile of women and an image of flower in the sponsor symbol in Studio Nail. I think that the smile of a woman has mildness and strength at the same time. That is the same with flowers. Beautiful flowers always bloom even in harsh natural environments. Studio nails wanted to express the strength of these women in their mildness. The sponsor symbol will be applied to the products of Bella Lab Co., Ltd. and will be used for various activities to be carried out in the future.

The Drawing_The Secret of Evolution Book.
The studio mot went to collaborate with the installer and engineer Kim Jin-woo, "The Drawing". As the second work, I put together a book of "The Secret of Evolution" which is one of the author's works in 2017. Evolution Secret series is now produced three series. Drawing from the initial idea drawing of the artist to the concrete form to the actual work, we arranged the drawing in order. When I turn over the bookshelf, I arrange it so that I can feel how the shape of the work changes naturally. At the end of the drawing, I put actual production drawings, work process, and photos of the completed works in order.

From the very small idea drawing to the concrete form of the work, the artist goes on to the endless drawings. The Studio mot organizes the drawings so that they can be used as a poster to symbolize the artist's drawing.
